It's just an opinion, but here are some of the favorites Sandy.
Jeff Funicello and Carlos Dolmo have both won 2 bronze medals at previous FILA Worlds. They won the medals based on the early weight classes, Jeff as a lightweight (less than 187 lbs) and Carlos as a Heavyweight (over 187 lbs.) This past year, Donvan Dapatto won Silver, the 1st to win a non-bronze medal for the U.S. at 154 lbs.
Donnie Corby is a wrestler that could represent the U.S. well, if he chooses to compete outside of Michigan. He has won a MI State title the past 4 years (1 in the HS division, the past 3 in the adult division). Jamisan Sacco has been a dominant Heavyweight at the U.S. Nationals the past few years, but hasn't competed internationally either.
Nate Patterson has won 2 World Team Trials. Joe and Mike Marone are a seasoned brotherly duo: Mike is a multiple time National Champion and former World Team Qualifier while Joe is the first wrestler to win 2 AAU World Championships and also won a North American Championship. Dennis Cannon is a seasoned Heavyweight who has won 5 North American Championships.
I hope this helps, and trying to be current. There are certainly up-an-comers, not to mention that anyone could beat anyone in Sand Wrestling. There are a few male and female World Bronze medalist that I haven't named, only because they seem to be inactive over the past 5 years.

Hello sir I am a Judo Practitioner who would like to start a Sand Wrestling Club someday, do you have any advice as to how to get started and sanctioned. I absolutely love how primal this sport is it seems to be as close to the original Olympic style as possible. I am currently living in Northeast Mississippi.

that's a good question, the first thing you need to find is a location to practice. If you aren't near a beach, a sandpit (usually used for volleyball) inside a local park can do the trick. But the sand needs to be grainy, meaning that it isn't mostly composed of tiny rocks. Then you would need people. Looking for a local wrestling forum and talking with schools can help, but posting something on a local newspaper forum can work well. If it's for free (at least in the initial stage), many local papers will publish it for free under the "Community" section. As far as insurance goes, and if you have permission to use your practice site, USA Wrestling offers insurance coverage, just look into their club membership offers at www.themat.com. As far as I know, the southeast hasn't hosted too many Sand Wrestling events. If things go well in getting a group together, you may want to consider hosting an event. It could be a "State Championship" to generate some buzz (there currently is not one in Mississippi), or possibly even a "Southeastern Regional Championships" if you think you could attract nearby out-of-state wrestlers. I could certainly see wrestlers from as far as Atlanta or southern Louisiana traveling for a contest with prestige and maybe a trophy during the summer months. Keep us posted on how it goes, share your insight to inspire others! Thanks!
